‘Apni Party Has No Politics Left Except Being a BJP Shield in J&K’
SRINAGAR, Aug 28 (KINS): National Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress Manpreet Singh Mani has hit out at Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, accusing him of “rewriting the history of Jammu and Kashmir” to please the BJP.
In a statement to KINS, Mani said Jammu and Kashmir did not need “lectures in history” from someone who, he alleged, was more interested in defending the BJP than safeguarding the interests of the people of J&K.
“Congress does not need a certificate from Apni Party to prove where it stood. Congress stood with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, defended democratic institutions and repeatedly raised its voice for the rights, dignity and political aspirations of the people,” Mani said.
Referring to Article 370, he said Bukhari should speak “honestly” about the developments of August 2019. He alleged that it was the BJP-led Union Government that abrogated J&K’s special constitutional status and reorganised the erstwhile state into two Union Territories.
“Why this sudden obsession with blaming Congress? Because when you have no political achievements of your own, the easiest politics is to attack Congress and repeat the BJP’s talking points,” Mani said.
He accused the Apni Party of acting as a “political shield” for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir and said Bukhari’s repeated criticism of Congress reflected how far the party had, according to him, drifted from the concerns of the people.
“J&K needs political rights, restoration of statehood, dignity and accountability, not politicians competing to please those in power,” he said.
Mani asserted that Congress had stood with Jammu and Kashmir “when it mattered,” adding that the people would ultimately decide who stood with them and who stood with the establishment.
“History cannot be rewritten through press statements. History won’t be rewritten to protect political masters,” he added. (KINS)
