Saudi Arabia Oct 11(KINS): At least 12 people were killed and 309 injured in an attack on an airport in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, local authorities said.
The fatalities included four Saudis, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one person each from the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Egypt, according to the Saudi civil aviation authority. Operations at King Khalid International Airport have been suspended.
A Saudi-led military coalition later vowed to respond to the attack, blaming Yemen’s Houthi rebels and describing it as a “war crime”.
The Houthis have not claimed responsibility for the latest attack. However, the group was blamed for separate strikes on the airport on Thursday that killed three people and damaged an aircraft.
Fighting has recently intensified between Yemen’s Saudi-backed government forces and the Houthis, who control large parts of the country. Saturday’s attack was the deadliest in Saudi Arabia since May 2015.
In addition to the strikes on Riyadh’s airport, a projectile fell near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, the Saudi-led coalition said.
The attacks came a day after authorities reported that three Saudis, including a pilot, had been killed in two Houthi attacks on the airport the previous day. Three more people were killed in Houthi attacks on two Saudi airports on October 6 and 7.
