Srinagar, Oct 16 (KINS): National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday criticised the behaviour of an IAS officer over his alleged remarks and conduct, saying the officer’s actions were unbecoming of a senior civil servant.
Speaking to reporters, Farooq said the officer’s words were inappropriate and stressed that government officials were expected to serve the public and help resolve their problems rather than use abusive language.
“Today, I must say that the words he used were very wrong. He should be reprimanded,” Abdullah said.
He expressed disappointment over the officer’s conduct, saying, “He has come for the people. He has come to ease the problems of the people. He has not come to abuse the people.”
Describing the behaviour as unbecoming of an IAS officer, Farooq Abdullah said the officer’s attitude was wrong and that the incident had brought embarrassment to the administrative services.
Reacting to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s reported remarks that the incident would not have happened had Jammu and Kashmir not been a Union Territory, Farooq Abdullah said the officer would have faced stricter action if he had been in charge at the time.
“If I was there at that time and this would have happened, he would not be in the state for more than a few minutes. I would put him back on the plane and send him back,” he said.
Asked whether the incident reflected changes in Jammu and Kashmir after 2019, Abdullah agreed, saying it indicated what had happened since that year.
Commenting on protests underway in Delhi, he welcomed the demonstrations, describing them as the beginning of a new wave against what he called autocracy and a “Hitlerian way of life.”
On renewed international conflict, he termed the situation a tragedy and called for negotiations instead of war.
“I hope that Trump will realize that war is not a solution. Negotiation is a way of solution. You are not going to win war, you are only going to kill people, and innocent people die,” he said.(KINS)
