Taliban attack checkpoint established to cut their supplies: 6 Taliban, 7 Afghan Army, 6 policemen killed, checkpoint destroyed

Srinagar:  The death toll in a Taliban led attack at the joint army and police checkpoint in Khogyani district in eastern Gazni province of Afghanistan has reached 19 including seven Afghan Army men, six policemen and six Taliban fighters. 

The joint checkpoint was set up barely two days back, officials said,  in a strategic area to cut off a supply route for the Taliban.

The attack has completely burned down and destroyed the checkpoint, officials told AP.

According to The Associated Press report, quoting Arif Noori, spokesman for the provincial governor, said that seven members of Afghan Army and six policemen have been killed in the attack. .

“Six  attackers were killed and more than 10 others were wounded during a three-hour battle with Afghan forces,” Noori was quoted by The AP.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement sent to the media.
