Srinagar, April 7 (KINS): With increasing in COVID-19 patients, authorities have been declaring more areas as ‘red zones’ which are being identified with the help of Forest Department.
There has been increase in coronavirus cases in Kashmir and mostly reportedly from Srinagar. Each day, authorities have been declaring several areas ‘red zones’ to prevent spread of the virus.
An official told Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) that over 26 areas have been declared ‘red zones’ in Kashmir. “People have been advised not to enter into these areas,” the official said.
The official said administration in ensuring to enforce strict lockdown in these ‘red zones’ identified by the government. “We want to make it sure that coronavirus does not spread in these areas,” the official said.
The official told KINS that most ‘red zone’ areas fall in Srinagar. “There are some populated areas including in old city Srinagar which have been declared red zones. Peoples especially from populated areas have to be extra careful,” the official said.
He said all entry and exit points leading to these areas were sealed after cases of COVID-19 affected persons were reported from these areas.
“No outward or inward movement of any individual for any reason would be allowed in these areas,” he added.
Srinagar District Magistrate Shahid Iqbal Choudhary issued an order for sealing Chattabal area, saying it was aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus infection.
Among the 26 ‘red zones’ are Rajbagh, Mehjoor Nagar, Khayam, Mehjoor Nagar, Eidgah, Lal Bazaar, Shalteng, Chadoora, Parray Mohalla Hajin, Chandergeer Hajin, Batagund Hajin in Bandipora district; Gudoora, Chandgam, Pinglena, Parigam, Abhama, Sangerwani and Khaigam in Pulwama district; Waskura, Guzhama in Ganderbal district; and Sedew and Ramnagri in Shopian district.
Another official said Forest Department was helping the administration in identifying the ‘red zones’ through Geographic Information System (GIS).
“GIS is being used to locate red zones and its surrounding areas and officials are monitoring it 24×7,” the official told KINS. The administration has put under surveillance more than 35,000 people across J&K.(KINS)
