Sopore police arrests drug peddler; contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Dec 25: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Sopore have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

The police in a statement issued to KINS said that a police party from Police Station Sopore established a checkpoint at Shabad near Main Chowk Sopore and intercepted a vehicle i20 bearing registration number JK05H-9954 with one person on board. He has been identified as Abdul Hameed Bhat resident of Hygam Sopore.

During checking, Officers were able to recover 55 grams of Heroin from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Sopore where he remains in custody.

Vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.358/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.(KINS)
