LG Manoj Sinha & Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh mourn
Jammu, Aug 4 ( KINS ) : Renowned Dogri poetess and writer Padma Sachdev passed away at her Mumbai-based residence on Wednesday. She was 81.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh condoled the demise of the writer.
Padma Sachdev was born in 1940 in Purmandal village of Samba district in Jammu region.
She was the first modern woman poet of the Dogri language.
She had published several poetry collections, including ‘Meri Kavita Mere Geet’, which won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971.
She was also the recipient of the Padma Shri (2001) and the Kabir Samman for poetry for the year 2007-08 presented by Government of Madhya Pradesh.
Padma Sachdev had many contributions in the field of literature.
The poet and novelist from Jammu, Sachdev breathed her last early Wednesday morning in Mumbai.
LG took to twitter to express condolences over the demise.
“Saddened to learn about the passing away of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Ji, the celebrated writer, poetess, and novelist from J&K. She made rich contributions to Dogri and Hindi Literature. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family members, well-wishers,” Mr Sinha tweeted.
Taking to microblogging site, Dr Singh wrote, “Shocked to hear the news of the passing away of Padma Shri, Padma Sachdev ji, a recipient of national fame in the writings of Dogri and Hindi.”
“It is difficult for Dogri literature and Duggar society to fill up this vacuum created,” he mentioned. (Agencies)
