Terror threat real, says IGP Jammu as Poonch operation enters day five

Jammu, April 18 (KINS): As the combing operation to track down terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district entered its fifth day on Friday, security agencies have drawn up a detailed action plan, identifying potential hideouts and intensifying surveillance in suspected areas.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti confirmed that the multi-agency operation is ongoing in the Lasana belt of Poonch, where a brief exchange of fire took place on Monday between terrorists and security forces.
“Terrorism is a stark reality in the region. It has resurfaced over the past one-and-a-half to two years, and we are responding with increased vigilance and operational capacity,” IGP Tuti said during his visit to the area.
The operation involves coordinated efforts by the counter-insurgency force ‘Romeo’, Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The forces are being supported by sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance systems to locate and neutralize the suspected militants believed to be hiding in the dense terrain.
Tuti said the security apparatus has been significantly enhanced to deal with the renewed threat of terrorism in the region.
“All necessary steps are being taken. Our forces are performing commendably in extremely challenging conditions,” he added.(KINS)
