Srinagar_Jammu highway closed again

The Srinagar-Jammu highway—the only surface link of Kashmir with rest of the world—was again closed for traffic on Friday following landslides in Ramban area.

“The Srinagar-Jammu highway is closed but we are undertaking the clearance operation on war-footing,” an official said.

He said traffic will hopefully be restored soon in case of fair weather. “The intending highway travellers should contact traffic control units before leaving for their destination,” he said.

The highway was restored on Monday for one-side traffic, day after it was blocked following heavy snowfall in Kashmir and Jammu areas. However, after fresh landslides in Ramban area, it was again closed.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Leh national highway and historic 86-km-long Mughal road and Anantnag-Kishtwar roads remained closed for the past ten days on Friday due to accumulation of several feet of snow and slippery road condition.
