Militants shot dead a BJP sarpanch, his panch wife in Anantnag

Srinagar, Aug 9 (KINS) A Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) sarpanch and his panch wife from Redwani Kulgam were shot dead by militants in south Kashmir district of Anantnag Monday afternoon.
Inspector Genera of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were involved in the attack.
Official sources told  that a group of militants entered the rented house of BJP sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Dar and his panch wife Jawahara at Lal Chowk in Anantnag Monday afternoon and fired upon them with automatic weapon from a very close range.
Dar and his wife, who were elected as sarpanch and panch respectively in Redwani Kulgam, were immediately rushed to Anantnag hospital where they were declared brought dead.
The couple was living in a rented house without any security.
Militants had managed to escape after the attack, they said adding later security forces were rushed the area and a massive search operation was launched to track the militants.
IGP Kumar has said that LeT militants were involved in the attack. Since militants are under pressure from the security forces because of successful operation, ultras are now hitting soft targets.
BJP took out a rally and hoisted national flag in Anantnag on the second anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A on August 5.
