Kashmir’s Winter Chill Intensifies: Sgr Freezes at -4.8°C, Pahalgam Braces Against Bitter Cold at -6.2°C

In the Kashmir Valley Srinagar shivered at -4.8°C, while other areas like Qazigund, Pahalgam, and Kupwara recorded -4.4°C, -6.2°C, and -4.6°C respectively.
The famous Gulmarg saw the mercury drop to -4.0°C, creating a wintry atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
Notably, Pahalgam and Pulwama witnessed particularly freezing conditions with temperatures plummeting to -6.2°C and -6.3°C respectively. Meanwhile, the regions of Kokernag, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Kulgam, and Shopian all experienced temperatures below the freezing point.
In the Jammu Region:
While the Jammu region managed to escape the intense cold gripping Kashmir, it didn’t remain untouched. Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 7.7°C, providing some relief from the more severe conditions up north. However, areas like Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah reported colder temperatures, with readings of 2.6°C, 2.7°C, and 0.4°C respectively.
In Ladakh:
The high-altitude desert of Ladakh witnessed even harsher cold, with Leh registering a bone-chilling -10.9°C. Kargil and Drass weren’t far behind, recording -9.9°C and -13.7°C respectively.
The compilation of these temperature readings, meticulously recorded by Weather officials, underscores the severity of the winter grip on the region. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe as the cold wave continues its icy embrace.
