Srinagar, Jan 12: In response to concerns raised after PDP President Mehbooba Mufti’s recent narrow escape in a road accident, the Jammu and Kashmir police categorically denied any security lapse. The Z+ category protectee, according to a police statement benefits from an extensive security arrangement to ensure her safety at all times.
The security detail, consisting of a team of 34 personnel led by a Chief Security Officer of Inspector rank, includes Personal Security Officers (PSOs) and a Close Proximity Team trained for close combat. The arrangements extend to protection on the move for road journeys. Ms. Mufti is granted a double escort of eight paramilitary personnel, and her residence in Khimber is fortified by a strong contingent of paramilitary guard personnel. The security convoy boasts multiple vehicles, equipped with a vehicle-mounted jammer to counter electronic threats.
The police statement highlighted a prompt response post-accident, deploying an alternative vehicle within an hour of the incident in Bijbehara, approximately 50 km from Srinagar. While acknowledging concerns raised by the party in the media, the police clarified that some claims about Z+ security details were factually incorrect. It emphasized the typical non-disclosure of security arrangements for senior protected persons but deemed it necessary to reassure protectees, including PDP party functionaries, that Ms. Mufti’s security measures remain intact.
The police concluded by acknowledging that accidents often result from unforeseen factors and the behavior of other road users.
