Jammu-Srinagar highway opens for one-way traffic

Srinagar: The only all-weather road, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which links the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, reopened for one-way traffic on Thursday. The highway was closed on Wednesday morning due to fresh snowfall.
“The snow clearance operation started at around 1 pm on Wednesday along the Jawahar tunnel and Qazigund. It took almost four hours for workers to clear the road for one-way traffic” said a senior traffic department
Over 300 Jammu-bound passengers have been rescued from the Kashmir part of the Jawahar tunnel along with the Verinag Zing area, where more than 7 inch of snow had covered the ground.
The 270-km highway was closed for vehicle traffic on Wednesday morning after heavy snowfall in Qazigund-Jawahar tunnel sector
