We wait and watch if elections held in time: Omar to PM

SRINAGAR, JAN 26 :  National Conference (NC) vice –president Omar Abdullah on Saturday, in a fresh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that if assembly elections in the Jammu and Kashmir are not held within the stipulated six months period, then it will be the  biggest admission of the ruling government’s disastrous handling of the state.

Currently, the valley is under the president rule after the expiry of six-months of Governor’s rule. On January 18, sources had said the election commission may hold fresh polls there within six months. In case elections do not take place, then President’s rule can be extended by another six months.

Taking it to the micro-blogging site Twitter, former J&K CM wrote, “PM Modi’s inability, should that be the case, to conduct J&K’s assembly elections within the stipulated 6 month period will be the biggest admission of his & his government’s disastrous handling of J&K. We wait & watch.”

The second tweet read, “Important to keep in mind that since 1995/96 baring a few by-elections to a handful of assembly seats & one parliament by-election all assembly & parliament elections have been held on time. What will the Modi government do this time around?”

It is to be noted here that last year in November Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik had dissolved the state assembly after Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti staked claim to form a government along with the support of her arch-rival Omar Abdullah’s National Conference (NC) and the Congress.
