Political parties for holding assembly elections sooner in JK

Srinagar, Jun 01 : Political parties in Kashmir Valley have urged the Election Commission of India and the new BJP government to conduct assembly elections as soon as early on the state so that people have a democratic system in place.

National Conference Member of Parliament from north Kashmir Akbar Lone said that GoI should hold elections in the state for the welfare of the people.

“No party will benefit from elections except people who will have a sigh of relief from misgovernment from governor administration,” Lone said, while talking to reporters.

Senior politician and President People’s Democratic Front Hakeem Yaseen said that governor rule is never an alternative to good governance and democratic setup.

“New BJP government should immediately announce holding of assembly elections in the state. I hope PM Modi with a strong majority will take a decision sooner for the welfare of the people here by holding elections,” Hakeem Yaseen told news agency.

National Conference senior leader Nazir Gurezi said that holding assembly elections will strengthen political and democratic systems in the state.

“I appeal ECI and GoI to announce holding of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir so that people elect their government for their betterment and welfare. Not holding elections conveys a message that GoI is succumbing to those forces here who didn’t want democratic set up and always convey an impression that situation is not good in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

The state has been under governor rule after BJP withdrew its support to PDP. (KNS)
