Drive against cannabis poppy growers continues in Shopian

SHOPIAN, MAY 15: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Shopian Chaudhry Mohammad Yasin and under the supervision of SDM Zainapora,  Tehsildar  Zainapora along with a team of officers including enforcement wing of excise and commercial tax department destroyed illicit cannabis poppy crops spread over 14 kanals of  land in Wachi & Melhoora, here today.

DDC warned the cultivators against the cultivation of poppy and directed the SDM and Tehsildar Zainapora  to keep vigil on the poppy cultivation and take stern action, under the relevant laws against those found involved in the poppy cultivation.

While stressing for intensifying anti-poppy and bhang cultivation drive, he underlined need for inter-departmental coordination for carrying effective drive against the cultivators of illicit crops.
