JCB, Dumper, Tractors involved in illegal mining seized by Geology Mining Department Budgam

Rs. 30.17 lakh penalty realized from offenders from 2018 till date

BUDGAM, MAY 15: Acting upon the instructions given by District Magistrate Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganie (KAS) regarding complete ban on illegal mining of sand, bajre and other minerals through offenders across Distrct Budgam, the Geology and mining department Budgam with active support of Distrct Administration has seized 4 tractors, one JCB and dumper in the month of May 2020 involved in illegal mining of sand, bajree and other minerals from prohibited Nallas and other prescribed places.

Apart from seizure an amount of Rs. 69640 was realized as fine component from the offenders. This information was revealed by District Mining Officer Budgam here today in meeting chaired by DM Budgam.

The meeting among others was also attended by ADC, Dr. Nasir Lone, SDMs, DIO, all Tehsildars and other concerned officers.

District Mineral Officer said, during the corresponding years of 2018 and 2019 the department effected 194 different kind of seizures and took action against 46 persons involved in illegal exercises.

The meeting was apprised that till date during these years, an amount of Rs 30.17 lac was accumulated and realized as fine from the offenders. He further said due to prompt actions against illegal mining the department was able to retrieve minerals worth Rs 15.32 lac.

Meanwhile, DM Budgam reiterated that the drive launched against such practices will continue with more vigor and force till involved persons refrain from exercising these illegal activities.
