Srinagar, June 20 : A gunfight broke out in Shopian village of Southern region of Kashmir between militants and forces this evening.
Reports reaching news agency KINS that a joint team of army’s 34 RR, SOG, and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in Lakadpora village of Shopian after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected house the hiding militants fired upon searching party triggering an encounter.
As per reports two militants are believed to be trapped.
A police officer also confirmed to KINS and said contact has been established with hiding militants and firing from both sides is on.
Till this report was filed intermittent firing was going on.
Pertinently, On Friday Five militants were killed in Shopian and in last 12 days 22 militants were killed.(KINS)
