All is not well in BJP Kashmir unit, 2 leaders resigned in 4 days

Srinagar July 14(KINS) : At least two youth leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party from north Kashmir have resigned for the last four days citing various reasons.

This comes after the recent killing of BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari, including his brother and father in Bandipora.

On Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president from Baramulla, Marouf Bhat tendered his resignation from the party.

“I hereby resign from the BJYM as a member and any post I held as part of it. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for the party,” Bhat posted on his Facebook account.

Later he was quoted by a national newspaper saying, “We can sacrifice our lives for the nation, but not of our children. I have been attacked twice in the past, yet nothing has been done about it. I have not been given even a single personal security officer.”

While on Tuesday, BJP’s Vice President for Kupwara Asif Ahmad also resigned from the party.

“I am from a well off family. I did not join BJP to make money but to work for my people. But we are not allowed to work by officials. BJP has no value on the ground. Officials are not bothered to listen to us and address issues of people,” he told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

He said that the administration has failed to solve the problems of people.

“I resigned because the authorities are not listening to us. Administration has failed in every manner. We are for the people but if public grievances are not listened to by administration and solved, why will we work with a party like BJP,” he said.

“There are potholes everywhere. The Roads and Buildings Department is using substandard material and is not listening to us. Other departments like Jal Shakti have failed to provide clean drinking water,” he added.

BJP General Secretary Ashok Koul however claimed that some people had joined the party for vested interest.

“Some people (who are resigning) had come from other parties and joined the BJP. They are seeking favours from officials. But officials are doing work for the welfare of people,” Koul told KINS.(KINS)
