140 militants active in South, North Kashmir: Officials

Srinagar, July 17(KINS): At least 140 militants both local and foreigner are active in seven districts of North and South Kashmir, officials said.

A top army official on Friday said that there are around 100 militants active in the southern region of Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference at Qazigund, Sector Commander 9 RR, Brigadier V S Thakur as per news agency KINS said, “Forces had been succeeding in South Kashmir for killing a large number of militants.”

He said there are around 100 militants active now in the southern region of Kashmir. “Among the 100 militants active in the region 30 are foreigners,” he said.

Similarly, as per officials’ details there are 40 active militants active in three districts of North Kashmir. “Among them, 17 are locals and 23 foreigners,” officials said.

As reported by this news agency last week, Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Sulaiman Chowdhary in a press conference said that “Around 35-40 foreign militants are active in north Kashmir, while some 17 local militants are also with them and in past seven months they have infiltrated to this side”.
