‘Adequate security arrangements being made for DDC polls’
Militants surrendering at gunfight sites an encouraging sign, says DIG S-Kashmir

Srinagar Nov 6 (KINS): Police on Friday said that adequate security arrangements are being made to ensure peaceful first ever District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
State Election Commissioner K K Sharma on Wednesday announced the first ever District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir in eight phases from November 28.
He also said that elections for the vacant seats of sarpanchs and panchs and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will also be held simultaneously with the DDC polls.
According to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) DIG South Kashmir Atul Goel Friday said police was making adequate security arrangements for candidates and polling officers. “We want to make violence free polls. We hope people in large number will come out to vote,” he said.
The State Election Commission has said that first ever elections for the DDCs will be held from November 28 and will conclude on December 22.
Meanwhile, the DIG South Kashmir said that militants were surrendering at gunfight sites which an encouraging sign.
“Three militants were hiding in Pampore area. We launched an operation and eliminated two militants. One local youth who had taken up arms surrendered. Those who surrender can live a normal life,” he said.
In the last few weeks, many youth who had taken up the arms surrendered at gun fight sites.
On Friday, a local youth who had joined militancy surrendered at gun flight site in Pampore Pulwama. (KINS)
