Sports week launched at IIIM

Jammu Nov 28 To commemorate the IIIM foundation day, sports week has been launched at CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu today in which cricket tournament was first in schedule. In a press hand-out issued here, it was stated that various sports activities such as Cricket, Volleyball and Badminton are being organized this year, as a part of foundation day celebrations. Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM has inaugurated the Sport Event and on first day the inaugural cricket match was played between Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division (PSA) and Natural Product and Medicinal Chemistry division (NPMC).

Dr. Zabeer Ahmed also highlighted the pivotal role of sports activities in fostering unity and camaraderie among the institute’s members. He urged the players to embrace the positive spirit of the game and applauded the organizing committee members for orchestrating such sporting events within the institute.

Today, at the Sir Col. R.N. Chopra Cricket Ground of CSIR-IIIM, the first match of this year’s cricket tournament was played between the teams of Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division (PSA) and Natural Product and Medicinal Chemistry Division (NPMC), which were captained by Dr. Dhiraj Vyas and Dr. Naveed Qazi, respectively. PSA won the toss and elected to field. Muneer and Showkat were the opening batsman of NPMC, while the batting line-up included Amit Nargotra, Wasim, Chetan, Naveed Qazi, Puneet, SD Sawant, Aamir and Junaid. NPMC scored 104 runs in 15 overs at the loss of 7 wickets. Vilayat Ali and Kamaljeet were the openers of PSA team, while the batting lineup included Ravail Singh, Fayaz, Waqas Ahmed, Atif Rashid, Bushan Kumar, Wajid Bhat, Dhiraj Vyas, Ishfaq Ahmed Wani and Rajinder Sharma. PSA won the match by scoring 107 runs in 14.1 overs and 4 wickets in hand. It is worth noting that PSA were the winners of the last year’s cricket tournament. A vibrant participation of scientists, staff members and research scholars witnessed the inaugural match. A total of 14 teams from various divisions and sections of CSIR-IIIM are participating in this week-long cricket tournament. Tomorrow’s match will be between the teams of Administration and Pharmacology Divisions.

In attendance, at this memorable occasion were Heads (HODs) from all divisions, administrative staff, and family members residing in the colony.
