Disappointed but undeterred: Omar Abdullah reacts to Article 370 verdict

Shortly after the Supreme Court affirmed the removal of Article 370, Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed disappointment but asserted the continued commitment to the struggle. Abdullah, in a post on X, stated, “Disappointed but not disheartened. The struggle will continue. It took the BJP decades to reach here. We are also prepared for the long haul. #WeShallOvercome #Article370.”

The Supreme Court upheld the President’s order allowing the Union to amend Article 370 without the recommendation of the Constituent Assembly, stating that the state’s consultation was not necessary in this matter. In delivering the landmark judgment, the 5-judge bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, deemed the exercise of presidential power to issue a constitutional order abrogating Article 370 as valid.
