Srinagar, Dec 17:Director General of Police RR Swain Sunday said that police have apprehended terrorists involved in the heinous attack on a policeman in bemina Srinagar.
Speaking at a press conference held at PCR Srinagar,DGP RR Swain provided detailed insights into the incident that transpired on December 9, 2023.
At approximately 1910 hours, Police Station Benina received distressing information regarding an attack at Hamdaniya Colony Bemina (Mithai Bund). Unknown terrorists, armed with illicit weapons, opened fire on Police Personnel Mohd Hafeez Chak (SgCt), who is currently stationed at Police Post Bana Mohalla (Fateh Kadal) and resides in Lontha Karnah A/P Hamdaniya Colony Bemina (Mathai bund). The injured officer was promptly transported to JVC Hospital for initial treatment and later to 92 Base Hospital Badamibagh Army hospital.
Following this grave incident, Case FIR No. 112/2023 U/S 307 IPC, 7/27 A. Act, 16, 18, 38 UAP Act, 120-B IPC was registered at P/S Bemina. The investigation, marked by meticulous scrutiny of inputs and technical evidence, led to the identification of several suspects. Through sustained interrogation, these individuals confessed to their direct involvement in the assault.
The accused, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khanday, Danish Ahmad Mala, and Mehnah Khan @Mehran, all residents of Srinagar, were subsequently arrested. Their arrests unveiled a cache of arms and ammunition, recovered based on the specific disclosures made during the investigation.
The retrieved items include Imtiyaz Ahmad Khanday’s Canik TP09 Pistol of Turkish make, 1 magazine, and 1 round of 9mm ammunition; Mehnan Khan’s Canik TP09 Pistol, 1 magazine, and 7 rounds of 9mm bullets; and Danish Malla’s possession of 57 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 2 magazines.
Startlingly, the investigation revealed a broader conspiracy involving the arrested individuals and a PAK based handler known as Hamza Burhan. The trio collaborated with Hamza Burhan to devise a plan targeting a police officer in Srinagar. On December 9, 2023, Danish and Imtiyaz executed the plan by identifying and assaulting their chosen target. Additionally, arms and ammunition were illegally procured from across the border to facilitate the attack.
The total recoveries from this operation include 2 pistols, 65 live rounds of pistol ammunition, and 4 pistol magazines. This successful intervention by law enforcement underscores their commitment to thwarting acts of terror and ensuring the safety of the community.
