Srinagar, Feb 11: In a relentless crackdown on the drug trade, police have apprehended three individuals involved in peddling narcotics in Shopian and Sopore. Significant quantities of contraband substances were seized from their possession.
In Shopian, a vigilant police team conducting checkpoint operations at Shah-e-Hamdan Colony Hanfia School Shopian intercepted a suspicious individual attempting to evade capture. Upon search, authorities discovered 7.4 kilograms of Poppy Straw concealed in a nylon bag. The suspect, identified as Tariq Ahmed Rather, hailing from Yamrach Kulgam, has been taken into custody for further investigation.
Similarly, in a separate incident in Shopian, another drug peddler, identified as Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Kulgam, was apprehended during checkpoint operations at Dangam Shopian. Authorities seized 140 grams of charas powder from his possession.
Meanwhile, in Sopore, a police team led by the In-Charge of Police Post Bus Stand, under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir-JKPS and SHO PS Sopore, intercepted a suspicious individual during checkpoint operations at Kupwara crossing. Upon search, they recovered 7 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the individual, identified as Owais Mushtaq Hakeem, a resident of Bismillah Colony Model Town Sopore.
Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are underway.
