Srinagar, Mar 27: In a relentless pursuit to combat the proliferation of narcotics, the police have apprehended three drug peddlers in Baramulla, seizing contraband substances from their possession.
A police team from Police Station Baramulla, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), established a checkpoint at Kanispora Chowk Baramulla, where they intercepted Sheikh Hashmat, son of Altaf Sheikh, hailing from Malda, West Bengal. Upon conducting a search, the team recovered approximately 20 grams of Brown Sugar-like contraband substances from his possession. Hashmat has been placed under arrest and is currently held at PS Baramulla.
Similarly, another police team from Police Station Kunzer, under the supervision of the SHO, intercepted two individuals, Nazir Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Ahmad Mir, and Riyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Mohd Mir, both residents of Chukar Pattan and Ratnipora Tangmarg respectively, at a checkpoint established at Hardu Shoora Kunzer. Upon search, the team recovered approximately 105 grams of Charas-like contraband substances from their possession. Both individuals have been arrested and are currently detained at PS Kunzer.
Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at Police Station Baramulla and Kunzer, with investigations already underway.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any instances of drug peddling or criminal activity to the nearest police station or by dialing 112. Cooperation from the community is essential in combating the scourge of drugs, and the police assure stringent action against offenders in accordance with the law.
