Srinagar, Aug 28 (KINS): Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Wednesday deferred its decision on the bail plea of Engineer Rashid, the jailed Member of Parliament from Baramulla, in connection with a “terror funding case”.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), leading the investigation, opposed the bail plea.
The proceedings were conducted in a closed-door, in-camera session, following which Additional Sessions Judge Chanderjit Singh reserved the verdict.
As per the news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), the court is expected to deliver its decision on September 4.
Rashid was arrested in 2017 for his alleged involvement in terror financing Rashid’s career began in engineering and rural development, where he served as an Assistant Manager with the Jammu & Kashmir Construction Project Corporation.
Known for his outspoken nature on public issues, he transitioned into politics, resigning from his government post in 2008 to run as an independent candidate for the Langate Assembly seat.
He won and later founded his own political party, securing re-election in 2014.
Rashid’s most notable political victory came in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where he triumphed over former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Lone by a significant margin.(KINS)
