Srinagar, Sep 06 (KINS): In a move to bolster security and curb criminal activities along the Kathua-Punjab border, an inter-state coordination meeting was held between the District Police of Kathua (Jammu & Kashmir) and Pathankot (Punjab) on Thursday.
Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) from both districts—SSP Kathua, and SSP Pathankot, led the discussions, reviewing the security arrangements in the region.
During the meeting, both law enforcement agencies emphasized the importance of seamless coordination to tackle cross-border criminal activities such as drug trafficking, smuggling, and other offenses. The meeting took stock of the existing measures in place and strategized new approaches to enhance patrolling, intelligence sharing, and joint operations along the interstate border.
SSP Kathua, remarked, “The Kathua-Punjab border is a crucial area that demands constant vigilance. With the rising trend of cross-border criminal activities, it is imperative for both districts to work together closely. Today’s meeting laid the foundation for stronger cooperation to safeguard the region.”
SSP Pathankot, echoed these sentiments, adding, “The exchange of real-time intelligence and conducting joint operations are key to tackling any potential threats in this sensitive region. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens along the border.”
As part of the discussions, the two district police units also deliberated on modernizing equipment, increasing manpower in sensitive areas, and conducting regular joint patrols along the border. Special emphasis was placed on addressing issues related to smuggling routes and the movement of suspicious vehicles between the two states.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue such inter-state dialogues regularly, fostering better coordination and enhanced security in the region.(KINS)
