Srinagar, Sept 08 (KINS): District Development Chairperson Safina Beigh said that her husband, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, was not initially interested in contesting the election, but the people of Baramulla urged him to run as an Independent candidate. Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, the former Deputy Chief Minister, is contesting as an Independent from the Baramulla assembly constituency.

Although Beigh was a founding member of the PDP, he has parted ways with the party and decided to contest as an Independent.

“Beigh Sahab was not interested in contesting the polls, but the people of Baramulla persuaded him to fight in the upcoming assembly elections. The people of Baramulla have given him a mandate to contest, and I am confident they won’t betray him,” Safina Beigh told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

She highlighted that her husband has contributed significantly to the development of Baramulla. “This is why the people of Baramulla wanted him to represent them in the assembly and pressured him to contest,” she added.

Safina also clarified that her husband had differences with the PDP but has not completely severed ties with them.

She further called on Omar Abdullah to clarify the National Conference’s (NC) policy on Kashmir. “During the DDC polls, Omar told people that the Sarpanches would bring back Article 370. Now they are saying that legislators will restore Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. NC should provide a clear policy to the people,” she said.

Safina welcomed the participation of JeI members in the polls and stated that the security situation has improved under LG’s rule. “Stone pelting has ended, terror incidents have declined, and Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant development. However, there is still a need for an elected government in J&K,” she concluded.
