Srinagar, Sep 17 (KINS): To address the increasing threats of cyber stalking and scams, the Jammu and Kashmir Cyber Police is urging the public to take proactive steps to protect their online presence and secure their identities.
The Cyber Police stress the importance of being cautious when sharing personal information online. “Think twice before sharing personal details with strangers,” they advised, according to KINS.
Recent data reveals an increase in cyber crimes such as identity theft, phishing scams, and cyber stalking. These activities not only jeopardize personal information but also cause significant financial and emotional damage to victims.
To help prevent these crimes, the Cyber Police recommend measures like: “Avoid sharing sensitive information like Social Security numbers, bank details, and passwords on unsecured or unfamiliar websites.
Be wary of interacting with unknown individuals or organizations online; verify their credibility before sharing any personal information.
Use strong, unique passwords and update them regularly. Enable multi-factor authentication for added security”.
“Watch out for common scam signs, such as unsolicited emails or messages requesting personal information or money. Report any suspicious online activity or potential cyber threats to your local Cyber Police department immediately”.
One of the Cyber Police officials said that the goal is to foster a more informed and cautious online community that can better protect itself from cyber threats.
