Srinagar, November 2: Former Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta has criticized National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah for his recent statements regarding the security situation in the region. Gupta emphasized that Abdullah’s comments were irresponsible and unfounded, insisting that no one has claimed that Omar Abdullah’s government is facing destabilization.
Gupta stated, “A responsible person should not make such statements. Peace is maintained in Jammu and Kashmir due to the efforts of security agencies. There have been no assertions about destabilization. Often, external forces attempt to create unrest, but thanks to the security forces, we are implementing a policy of zero tolerance. His remarks are absolutely wrong.”
Earlier in the day, Farooq Abdullah had called for an investigation into a recent terror attack in Budgam, expressing concern that it could be linked to efforts to destabilize the current government. He remarked, “It should be investigated. How is it that the government is in place, yet such incidents occur? If the terrorists are apprehended, we can learn who is behind this. They should not be killed but captured to understand their motives… We must explore if any agency is trying to undermine Omar Abdullah.”
The comments come in the wake of a shooting incident on Friday, where terrorists opened fire on two non-locals in the Mazhama area of Budgam district. Following the attack, security forces swiftly cordoned off the area to pursue the assailants. Official sources reported that the injured were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition.
In a related development, an encounter between security forces and militants erupted earlier today in the Khanyar area of Srinagar. Kashmir Zone Police reported that a cordon and search operation had led to an exchange of gunfire, with police and security forces actively engaged in the situation. Further updates are expected as operations continue.
