Srinagar, Nov 15 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a crucial meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Friday.
The discussion centered on measures to bolster Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and reduce its financial dependence on the Centre, officials said.
This meeting gains importance as the National Conference-led government prepares to present its first budget since the end of six years of central rule. Abdullah’s government, formed after a resounding victory in the recent assembly elections, is the first administration in Jammu and Kashmir following its reorganization in August 2019.
Abdullah’s National Conference secured 42 out of 90 assembly seats in the Union Territory’s first elections in a decade.
The Chief Minister, along with five cabinet ministers, was sworn in on October 16.
The National Conference shared a picture of Sitharaman and Abdullah greeting each other after the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, called upon the Union Cabinet Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs. The discussion revolved around the economic and financial progress of Jammu & Kashmir.”
Officials described the interaction as “very positive,” noting that Abdullah emphasized strengthening the financial health of J&K through revenue generation and self-reliance. Discussions included potential investments in infrastructure and connectivity to make jammu and Kashmir an attractive destination for investors.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of boosting employment and investments in key sectors like tourism, agriculture, and horticulture.
This meeting follows CMs recent discussions with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Earlier in October, Abdullah had separate consultations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other key cabinet ministers.(KINS)
