Huge tourist influx in J&K soon: Minister Satish Sharma

Urges people to keep the environment clean, assures ration supplies for remote areas

Srinagar, Dec 07 (KINS): Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, overseeing Food, Civil Supplies, Transport, and Youth Services and Sports, expressed optimism about a significant influx of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) while highlighting the collective responsibility to keep the region clean and welcoming.

“I am confident J&K will witness a massive surge in tourism. The government must be prepared, and the public should ensure cleanliness and respect for tourists, who are like God for us and deserve the best treatment,” Sharma told reporters here.

Sharma assured ample ration supplies for remote areas, stressing the need for preparation against natural calamities like avalanches that could disrupt access. “We will ensure enough ration is stocked to address any emergencies,” he said.

For those unable to use fingerprint-based identification for ration distribution—such as the elderly and ailing—Sharma promised alternative methods and doorstep service.

On the protests at the Jammu toll plaza, the minister criticized the toll as unfair and urged the central government to reconsider. “The government is here to provide reliefand I call on the Centre to roll back the toll in Jammu,” he said- (KINS)
