Srinagar, Dec 19(KINS): Dr. Owais Ahmad, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), said on Thursday that over 1,000 cameras have been installed across 62 junctions in Srinagar to monitor and address traffic violations.
Speaking to reporters at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in HMT Srinagar, Dr. Owais explained that the installation of these cameras is part of the city’s new Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). He emphasized that this initiative is designed to monitor traffic behavior and ensure safer, incident-free travel for all road users.
“Today marks the launch of the Integrated Command Control Centre at HMT Srinagar. Yesterday, we activated over 1,000 cameras at 62 junctions across the city to capture traffic violations. This effort aims to protect the lives of all road users, including both drivers and pedestrians,” Dr. Owais said.
He further stated that the advanced technology will help enforce traffic laws more effectively, with special focus on violations such as failure to wear seat belts, use helmets, texting while driving, and running red lights. Additionally, speed violations will be monitored and captured in the near future.
Dr. Owais clarified that, alongside the ICCC at HMT, the ITMS is also being monitored from the SSP Traffic Office to ensure comprehensive oversight.(KINS)
