Srinagar, Jan 2 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said his government’s commitment to delivering on promises made to the people during elections, highlighting key steps taken during his tenure.
“We are aware of the promises we made with the people. In the first cabinet meeting, we passed a resolution for the restoration of statehood. In the assembly, we also passed a resolution for restoring our identity. Additionally, we reversed certain school zones and adjusted examination timings,” Omar Abdullah said, according to news agency KINS.
When asked about his perspective on being a Chief Minister in a Union Territory, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the limited powers afforded to the role.
“I can’t say I am as empowered as a state Chief Minister would be. No CM in a Union Territory is as empowered as one in a state,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister’s comments come amid ongoing demands for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, which was revoked in August 2019 when the region was reorganized into two Union Territories. (KINS)
