Snowfall predicted in Kashmir from Jan 4-6; air traffic and roads likely to be disrupted, Govt issues advisory

Srinagar, Jan 03: The Kashmir Valley is gearing up for a spell of snowfall from January 4 to 6, which is expected to disrupt air traffic and road connectivity.
The government has issued an advisory, urging the public to adhere to safety guidelines provided by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions to ensure safety and minimize disruptions.
“Additionally, the MH&ED, PWD (R&B), SMC, KPDCL, Jal Shakti, and Health & Medical Education Departments are advised to make necessary logistical arrangements for snow clearance and related tasks. The field staff of these departments must remain stationed at their respective headquarters to provide immediate assistance,” the advisory reads, as per news agency KINS.
An official from the Meteorological Department stated that the inclement weather is likely to begin tonight and intensify over the next 48 hours, particularly impacting higher altitudes.
“We are expecting widespread snowfall across Kashmir, with heavy accumulation in some areas. Travelers are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys, and the public should take precautions to deal with potential disruptions,” the official added.
Authorities have been alerted to ensure road clearance and the maintenance of essential services during the snowfall. (KINS)
