Police arrests accused person involved in extortion in Srinagar

Srinagar Feb 21 (KINS): Srinagar Police has arrested an accused person for his involvement in extortion case following a detailed investigation.

A police statement said that the accused person had a history of over 30 criminal cases, and had previously been booked under the PSA twice.

“A written complaint was received by Police Post Bagyas on 10th January 2025 wherein the applicant namely Tufail Ahmad Badar son of Mohammad Akbar resident of Badarpora Qoimoh Kulgam stated that he was at Shireen Bagh Super Speciality hospital with his patient.
During the night hours, he went outside the hospital to buy medicines from nearby medical shop where he was forcefully taken into the vehicle by one unknown person who extorted ₹8000 from him,” the police statement reads.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 02/2025 under section 308(2) BNS was registered in Police Station Safakadal and investigation was started.
During the course of investigation, the investigating team after analysing various CCTV cameras and other technical evidence identified the accused person as Imtiyaz Ahmad Shah @ 99 son of Ghulam Qadir Shah resident of Aikal Mir Khanyar and he was subsequently arrested.

It is pertinent to mention here that the accused person is involved in more than 30 FIRs involving theft and extortion in addition to being booked under PSA twice.
