Shikara March on Dal Lake highlights Kashmir’s cultural heritage at Srinagar heritage festival

Srinagar, February 26: The second day of the Srinagar Heritage Festival—“Soun Meeraas”, an initiative of the District Administration Srinagar, featured a traditional Shikara March on Dal Lake, celebrating the cultural richness and historical heritage of the Kashmir Valley.

Organized in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), the event aimed to educate the younger generation about Srinagar’s rich cultural traditions.

Tourists and locals witnessed live demonstrations of the Floating Market on Dal Lake, an authentic recreation of a bygone era, when Kashmiri farmers and artisans sold their produce and handicrafts directly from boats. The event provided an immersive experience of the valley’s traditional lifestyle and economic practices.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Ahmad Kataria, along with senior officials from the District Administration and IGNCA, attended the event, underscoring its importance in preserving and promoting Kashmir’s cultural legacy.(KINS)
