Police registers first e-FIR in Kupwara

Srinagar, March 07 (KINS): In a significant development, the Police in Kupwara have registered the district’s first e-FIR, marking a step towards enhanced accessibility and digital policing.

On 05/03/2025, a complaint was received via email from Gh Nabi Bhat, son of Haji Assadullah Bhat, a resident of Baghaat Colony, Bumhama, Kupwara. He stated that while he was not at home, an individual [Name Withheld] allegedly set fire to his wooden shed and cow shed. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it could spread further. The complainant alleged that this was a deliberate attempt to damage his property.

Upon receiving the complaint, a preliminary verification was conducted, confirming the allegations. On 06/03/2025, the complainant signed the official copy, and accordingly, FIR No. 60/2025 was registered under relevant sections of the law. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the facts and take necessary legal action.

This e-FIR marks a significant step in digital policing, streamlining the complaint registration process and making it more efficient and accessible for citizens.(KINS)
