Sunil Sharma welcomes ban on AAC and JKIM, criticizes Mehbooba Mufti’s opposition

Srinagar, Mar 12 (KINS): BJP senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, has hailed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decision to ban the two organizations—the Awami Action Committee (AAC), led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and the Jammu & Kashmir Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen (JKIM), headed by Abbas Ansari—under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), calling it a resolute step towards safeguarding India’s integrity and sovereignty.

“The banning of these two organizations is a strong and welcome decision by the central government. The Awami Action Committee, led by Maulvi Umar Farooq, and the JK Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, led by Abbas Ansari, have been working against the unity of India,” Sharma stated as per news agency KINS.

“This action reflects the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to combating separatism and terrorism, ensuring the security and solidarity of our nation. No person or organization should be allowed to operate against India’s unity,” he added.

Sharma also criticized former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for opposing the ban. “The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was founded on separatist sentiment. Parties like Hurriyat and Jamaat-e-Islami have been the backbone of the PDP. Whenever actions are taken against radical and anti-India elements, Madam Mufti feels discomfort, and it shows in her statements,” Sharma remarked, referring to Mufti’s opposition to the ban.

When asked about recent comments by Congress leader Rashid Alvi, who alleged that Muslims were being targeted, Sharma strongly dismissed the accusation. “These parties have thrived on the policy of divide and appease, which is completely contrary to the values enshrined in the Constitution. Such divisive actions will no longer be tolerated,” Sharma asserted.(KINS)
