PM Modi hails Rs 18,658-Crore Railway projects and vibrant villages-II approval as big boost to infrastructure and Border Development

Srinagar, Apr 05 (KINS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of four multi-tracking railway projects worth Rs 18,658 crore, saying the move will significantly enhance connectivity, ease transportation, lower logistics costs, and strengthen supply chains.

According to an official release, the projects—cleared under the Ministry of Railways—span 15 districts across Maharashtra, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, and will expand the Indian Railways network by approximately 1,247 km.

In addition, PM Modi lauded the Cabinet’s green light to the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme, calling it “exceptional news” for improving the quality of life in remote and strategic border villages. “With this approval, we are also expanding the scope of the villages covered compared to Vibrant Villages Programme-I,” he said.

The programme aims to create better living conditions and livelihood opportunities in frontier areas to ensure secure, integrated, and prosperous borders. It also seeks to involve residents as ‘eyes and ears’ of the border guarding forces—an important aspect of internal security.

The Vibrant Villages Programme-II, with a total outlay of Rs 6,839 crore, will be implemented in select villages across 17 states and Union Territories—including Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Sikkim—till 2028-29.(KINS)
