Electronic Surveillance system to strengthen Border Security, detect terror tunnels in J&K

Kathua, Apr 7 (KINS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday announced the government’s plan to deploy a cutting-edge electronic surveillance system along India’s borders, aimed at bolstering national security and thwarting cross-border infiltration attempts by terrorists, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at the ‘Vinay’ Border Outpost near the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, Shah underscored the importance of technology in enhancing border vigilance.

“We are deploying an electronic surveillance system on the borders, having two models… If anything happens from the enemy side, you will be able to respond immediately,” Shah said. He emphasized that the new system would not only improve response times but also aid in detecting and dismantling underground cross-border tunnels—one of the key tactics used by infiltrators.

The Home Minister also noted that the deployment of technology will help improve accessibility in difficult terrain, making it easier for security forces to monitor and manage remote areas.

Praising the dedication of the BSF personnel, Shah said, “The real challenge is understood only when one visits these posts. Whether it is cold, rain, or extreme heat exceeding 45 degrees Celsius, you remain vigilant 24×7 throughout the year, guarding the nation’s frontlines.”

He lauded the BSF’s historic role in India’s defense, saying, “The BSF has a glowing legacy. In all past wars with Pakistan, its contribution was no less than that of the Indian Army.”

Shah’s visit to the outpost is part of his three-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir, focused on reviewing border security, assessing development work, and interacting with security personnel on the ground.(KINS)
