Ramban flash floods: Rescue Ops in full swing on LG administration’s directions, says DC, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary

Ramban, April 20 (KINS):Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary Sunday said that the district administration is operating under “clear-cut directions from the Lieutenant Governor’s administration ” to conduct rescue and relief operations on a war footing, following the tragic cloudburst and flash floods that struck Ramban District.
As per the news gathering agency KINS, Choudhary while talking to reporters assured that “all kinds of losses—be it life, livestock, or property—will be compensated as per the law.”
Expressing sorrow over the fatalities, he said, “In this unfortunate episode, we lost two children and an elderly person. We stand in solidarity with the affected families during this extremely difficult time.”
He further acknowledged the rapid response and bravery of officials, security forces, and local residents. “Their swift and coordinated action played a crucial role in minimizing damage during this natural calamity,” he noted.
Calling for continued public cooperation, the DC appealed to residents to follow advisories issued by the district administration and the traffic control room, especially in light of continued bad weather.
The flash floods, triggered by incessant rain and a cloudburst, have claimed three lives and affected multiple areas in the district, while over 100 people have been safely rescued. The situation remains under close watch as rescue and restoration efforts continue.
The tragic incident occurred in Seri Bagna village, where the cloudburst wreaked havoc, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in the incident.
Officials reported that incessant rainfall triggered landslides and mudslides at nearly a dozen locations between Nashri and Banihal along the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, leading to its temporary closure. Restoration work is underway.
Rescue and relief teams continue to operate across affected areas as the region remains on high alert due to forecasted rainfall and unstable terrain.(KINS)
