Dry spell to persist in J&K; heat wave likely in parts of Jammu Division, says MeT Department

KINS Desk

Srinagar, April 28 (KINS): The Meteorological Department has forecast a prolonged dry spell across Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days, warning of possible heat wave conditions at isolated locations, particularly in the Jammu division.

According to the latest advisory issued today, the weather is expected to remain generally dry from April 28 to May 1. Light rain and thundershowers are likely at a few isolated places on May 2 and May 3, the department said.

The MeT office has also indicated a significant rise in day temperatures starting today, especially in Jammu, where the conditions are expected to turn hot and dry, with heat waves likely to develop at certain locations.

In view of the forecast, the weather department has urged residents to take necessary precautions, advising people to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and fluids, and to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours between 12 PM and 3 PM.

Farmers, meanwhile, have been advised to resume farming operations and spraying activities immediately, as the dry weather conditions are expected to remain favourable over the coming days.

Authorities have also recommended special care for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions, to prevent heat-related illnesses. (KINS)
