PM Modi will not stay silent on Pahalgam attack, asserts LoP Sunil Sharma in Special Assembly Session
Jammu, April 28 (KINS): Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would deliver a “befitting” response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Speaking during a special session of the Assembly, Sharma said the entire nation’s eyes were on Jammu and Kashmir, and every word spoken in the House was being closely scrutinized.
Expressing deep anguish over the tragedy, Sharma said, “My heart aches for the victims of the Pahalgam attack. Jammu and Kashmir, known as the paradise on earth, has been shaken to its core. Humanity itself has been wounded.”
He emphasized that despite Pakistan’s attempts to fuel unrest through local miscreants, the people of Jammu and Kashmir had stood together after 35 years, sending a clear message of unity and resilience to the world.
“Pakistan has tried repeatedly to keep its divisive narrative alive through proxies. But the people of Jammu and Kashmir have answered them powerfully by standing united,” Sharma said.
He recounted the emotional toll the attack had taken across the region, citing the grief of families who lost loved ones, including a woman who lost her husband and a young boy left without his father.
Highlighting the emotional and political importance of the special session, Sharma stressed, “Every word spoken here carries immense weight. The entire nation is watching us. After the attack, many of us couldn’t even eat — instead, we took to the streets to show that it took 35 years, but now we are united, and no divisive tactic will succeed.”
Calling on legislators to preserve this newfound unity, he warned that it must be protected from any ‘evil eye’.
Sharma praised the Centre’s immediate steps following the attack and expressed confidence in a strong response. “The Prime Minister will not remain silent. Some actions have already been initiated, and we must trust the government to respond appropriately,” he said.
He further pointed out Pakistan’s continued efforts to destabilize the region, reminding the House that Pakistan had been defeated thrice in conventional wars since 1947 and was now relying on “adopted miscreants” to maintain its influence.
“But the resilience shown by the people of Jammu and Kashmir is praiseworthy,” he added.(KINS)
