Performance of Govt schools improving significantly: Director School Education Kashmir

Srinagar, July 26 (KINS): Director School Education Kashmir, G N Itoo, on Saturday said the performance of government schools has improved significantly, citing recent academic results and increased success in competitive examinations like NEET and JEE.
“In the past, our result percentage was 58%. Today, it has reached 72%. This improvement reflects the hard work of both students and teachers. Students in government schools, particularly in remote areas, are showing remarkable progress,” Itoo told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service.
He highlighted that the government has taken several initiatives to strengthen the education system, including deploying subject-specific teachers.
“We recently appointed 700 subject-specific Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs). The remaining vacancies will be filled in the coming days,” he said.
He further stated that the process of promoting Post Graduate (PG) Master teachers to lecturers is nearing completion. “Very soon, we will address the gap in placements. The process of appointing principals, headmasters, and Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) is also in the final stage. I am confident that by next month, we will achieve zero vacancy in key academic positions,” he said.
On the Mid-Day Meal scheme, he acknowledged that while a setup of such a large scale may occasionally face lapses, the department is committed to taking strict action against any mismanagement.
“We have instructed school management committees and the local community to monitor the program closely. Parents must also stay alert and engage with schools,” he said.
The Director stated the importance of lesson planning in improving academic standards. “There have been complaints that newly promoted teachers are not preparing lesson plans. This is a serious issue because a structured lesson plan is the key to effective teaching. Teachers and headmasters will be held accountable if professional standards are not maintained,” he warned.
Expressing optimism about the future, he said, “We aim to bring the performance of government schools to 100% in terms of academic results and operational efficiency.” (KINS)
