Security lapses in the Pahalgam attack should now be considered a closed matter, ‘as the LG has already accepted responsibility’: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Srinagar, July 31 (KINS): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday said the issue of security lapses in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack should now be considered closed, as the Lieutenant Governor has already acknowledged and accepted responsibility.

“I think that chapter has been closed. The LG has said something about it and has owned the responsibility. With that, the matter should be closed,” Azad told reporters in Srinagar as per news agency KINS.

Azad was responding to questions about the recent Operation Mahadev, in which three terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack were neutralised. He reiterated his support for anti-terror operations but cautioned that human rights must never be violated.

“Even when I was chief minister, the security forces had complete freedom to act. My only condition was that there should be no fake encounters or human rights violations,” he said.

On the future of his party, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), the former Union Minister hinted at rethinking its continuation amid defections and shifting loyalties.

“In our politics, some people want to remain ministers for life. They jump from one party to another in search of power. But at the grassroots level, there has been a threefold increase in new members joining, including DDCs and BDCs,” he said.

“I will decide whether to continue the party or not. My politics is based on truth and non-violence, not on emotional manipulation,” Azad added.

Commenting on US President Donald Trump’s alleged involvement in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor, Azad sided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Trump says many things. But our Prime Minister made it clear in Parliament that no country intervened. He also spoke about his talks with the US Vice President. I have no reason not to believe our elected Prime Minister,” he said.(KINS)
