J&K ACB nabs Junior Engineer in Shopian for taking 20,000 bribe
Srinagar, Aug 14: The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested ‘Aamir Farooq Sheikh, a Junior Engineer with the Rural Development Department in Shopian, for demanding and accepting a bribe of 20,000’.
According to an official statement issued to news agency KINS , the ACB received a written complaint alleging that a payment of 7.5 lakh for works executed by the complainant was pending with the department. The accused allegedly demanded 20,000 to facilitate the release of the payment.
The complainant, refusing to pay the bribe, approached the ACB. Following discreet verification, FIR No. 04/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered at Police Station ACB Anantnag.
A trap team, accompanied by independent witnesses, was formed to carry out the operation. The accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe, with the tainted money recovered from his possession in the presence of witnesses. He was arrested on the spot.
Soon after the FIR registration, searches were conducted at his residences in Kachdoora (Shopian) and Kanipora (Nowgam, Srinagar). Searches were still underway when the report was filed, the ACB added and said that the further investigation is ongoing.(KINS)
