Srinagar, Aug 19 (KINS): In a shocking development, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said they have cracked the case of the Ganderbal minor girl’s murder and arrested the victim’s elder sister for her involvement.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, said the elder sister had initially misled police by claiming that both girls were abducted before the younger sibling was killed. “During the investigation, we found no evidence supporting the abduction theory. When we interrogated the elder sister further, she admitted to her role in the crime,” the SSP said, according to news agency KINS.
According to police, the two sisters had gone to a nearby field where an argument broke out over some personal issues. The quarrel soon escalated into a physical scuffle, during which the elder sister, in a fit of rage, attacked her sibling. “In her confession, she revealed that she used a rod to fatally assault her younger sister. We have also recovered the weapon of offence,” Poswal stated.
The police said the case highlights how initial narratives provided by suspects can sometimes be misleading, requiring thorough investigations to uncover the truth. “Our teams worked tirelessly on the case. It was only after sustained questioning and evidence gathering that the facts came to light,” the SSP added.
He further said that, at this stage, there is no evidence of the involvement of any other person in the crime. “The investigation is still ongoing, but so far it appears to be a case of a sudden rage leading to a tragic end,” he said.
The incident has sent shockwaves across Ganderbal district, with locals expressing disbelief over the involvement of an elder sister in the killing. (KINS)
