Srinagar, Aug 27 (KINS): In view of the prevailing weather conditions and forecast of heavy rains, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, along with Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Faz Lul Haseeb, on Wednesday evening carried out an extensive tour of several city areas to assess preparedness measures.
The officers inspected key flood-prone and waterlogging spots, including the Flood Control Room at Ram Munshi Bagh, dewatering station at Lal Mandi, Kursu Rajbagh, Padshahi Bagh, Panthachowk, Khonmoh, and other vulnerable localities. They took a first-hand review of the functioning of dewatering stations, availability of machinery, and preventive steps in place to minimize the risk of inundation.
During the visit, directions were issued to line departments to maintain round-the-clock readiness, ensure seamless coordination, and keep both human resources and machinery mobilized to respond promptly to any eventuality. Emphasizing the importance of preventive action, the DC instructed officials to adopt a proactive approach and maintain a robust multi-sectoral response system.
The DC and Commissioner also interacted with local residents, urging them to stay connected through official advisories, use helpline numbers for reporting emergencies, and avoid panic. “All administrative wings are on alert and are continuously monitoring the situation. There is no cause for fear or panic,” the DC assured.
